Standard & Poor’s raised its long term municipal bond rating for the Town of Wilmington to “AA+” from “AA-“ “based on the town’s good reserve levels, strong tax base and very low debt burden”. The new rating amounted to a double upgrade for the town and is believed to be the highest bond rating in the town’s history. The rating “AA+” is the second highest rating that can be issued.
The official statement released by Standard & Poor’s commented favorably on the town’s financial position citing numerous strong local economic indicators. The statement cited the town’s good financial management practices and Standard & Poor’s expectation that the town would continue to maintain its strong financial position as contributing factors to the town’s financial stability and its strong rating.
The rating validates the Board’s commitment to professional management and reflects the solid work performance of Wilmington’s employees and the dedication of its many town officials.
