Frequently Asked Questions
How often is the Recreation Department Newsletter "Recreation Matters" published?
How often is the Recreation Department Newsletter "Recreation Matters" published?
Our newsletter, now called "Recreation Matters", is published quarterly – February, May, August and November.  Exact dates vary due to different timetables we encounter when gathering information for programs and trips.  Registration begins for the programs and trips listed as soon as the newsletter is published, unless a separate registration date has been noted.  All programs are first-come, first-served.

How can I get a copy?
Newsletters are available in various places in Town Hall, the Wilmington Memorial Library and the Senior Center.

If I am unable to come to the Recreation Department during office hours, how can I register for programs or trips?
You can put a registration form or program details along with payment in the mail, or stop by Town Hall at your convenience and place a sealed envelope in the Payment Drop Off slot in the wall next to the front door of Town Hall.  The box is opened once a day, Monday through Friday, at 8:30 a.m.

Can I register for a program or trip without payment?
No.  Payment is required to secure your place.  While we may note that you called to say you plan to register, it is not official until we receive payment.  Some show tickets and trips can be secured with only a deposit.  If you are not sure – please ask!

I don’t live in Wilmington.  Are your offerings available to me?
Frequently, but it depends on the program.  All programs and trips are offered to Wilmington residents first.  However, a Wilmington resident can always take a traveling companion from out of town on a trip.  If our classes or trips are not full, we can often accommodate non-residents.  Feel free to call us – it’s always worth asking!

Help!  The program I want is full!
Some of our most popular trips and programs do fill to capacity.  Never hesitate to ask to be placed on a wait list.  We frequently have cancellations, and go to the wait list to fill new openings.  There have also been instances when something has been so popular we’ve been able to add a second bus, show or an additional class.  If nothing else, we can sometimes adjust future offerings to reflect program demand.

Why can’t I ever get the sports or theatre tickets I’m looking for a week or two before the event?
With group sales, we have a limited access to tickets and we are restricted to certain dates.  While group sales allow us to offer the best possible prices, these sales occur before sales to the general public.  We must plan (and sometimes pay) in advance – sometimes well before an event will be held, or even before you see it advertised.  We also need to finalize payments with the venue in time to receive your tickets, and then get them to you.  If a game or show is in our newsletter, it’s time to register!

We hope we answered your question here.  If not, give us a call at (978) 658 – 4270.  We look forward to working with you.
